Effective January 1, 2023, the TN Dept of Commerce and Insurance, will be require all unarmed security guards to complete 2 hours of refresher training as a pre-requisite of registration renewal. All unarmed security guards who apply for registration renewal must attach to their application proof of having completed this refresher training.

This course is based on the curriculum specified by the Tennessee Private Protective Services Board. It has four 1-hour parts: Part 1 is an Orientation consisting of the TPPS Regulatory Act and Administrative Rules; Role of a Security Officer; Attitude and Conduct of Security Officers. Part 2 is Legal Powers and Limitations of a Security Officer, consisting of Authority found in the TN Code, Title 62-35 and Criminal and Civil Laws and Liabilities specified in the TN Code, Titles 39 and 40.
